For Gamecock fans, last Satruday was a memorable day as the team upset third-ranked Georgia 20-17 on Georgia’s home field in Athens. The win was needs, and especially one of this significance.

Clemson Tigers continued a consistent winning streak by taking down Florida State 45-14 in Death Valley.

The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce held its monthly breakfast last week with guest speaker Todd Carnes. Members were reminded of the member appreciating lunch October 18, 11:30-1:30 at the chamber. The fall festival and oyster roast will be November 16, 6-10 pm at The Grove on Augusta Highway.

Lunch and Learn at Shiloh United Methodist Church last week offered an interesting program, “The Efficient Strategies for Giving, Living and Legacy,” by Thrivent Financial. Contact Donna Griffin, 359-7586, if you want to attendthe November 3 lunch. The topic is “History of Lutheran Seminary in Lexington.”

Shiloh will hold its Homecoming and building dedication Occt. 27, celebrating 182 years of mission and service.

Residents at Oakleaf Village believe bodies, minds and memory need regular exercise. Every two weeks, they participate in a group crossword puzzle. Sitting in a semicircle, they listen as volunteer Peter Buttress calls out the clues. When someone has the correct answer, volunteer Sheila Gogan writes it on a large board. It is amazing how quickly these residents, who are in their 80s and 90s, finish solving the puzzle.

Anne Bull reports that the Lexington Public Librarys Spooky Tea last Sunday featured boo-tiful refreshments of hot apple cider and pumpkin spiced tea. Attendees heard stories of haunted libraries throughout the US and the most infamous one in Dublin, Ireland. The South Caroliniana Library at USC is said to be haunted by the ghost of former USC president James McKissick, whose grave is nearby. The Marsh’s Library in Dublin was the place Bram Stoker is said to have visited to research his novel, Dracula.The next tea will be November 10, 2:30 pm, and will feature British teas. The public is invited.

Congratulations to Madison Emily Barret, daughter of Lee and Christine Barret of Lexington, who was named Teen Miss South Carolina in July in Hartsville. She is a senior at Lexington High in the international Baccalaureate program. She plans to attend Clemson and then MUSC to become a neonatologist. Best wishes!
