How to help the less fortunate

Lexington Church of God is offering a Community Drive-In Graduation at 1 pm Saturday, May 30, following their shift to drive-in weekly church services. They are asking for graduate’s full name and school sent to frontlineyouth@lexcog.com to participate.

In the crisis, more people are experiencing job and income loss and other issues.

If you would like to help locally but don’t know where or how, start with one of several “Blessing Box” ministries in and around Red Bank. Red Bank United Methodist Church on South Lake Drive has one as does Radius Church on Platt Springs. If you have extra non perishable food items, drop them off any time at these enclosed boxes to share with neighbors in need. If you or your family is in need, stop by one of the boxes and pick up some items to stretch your food budget. Thanks to all who contribute to these and other ways to help the less fortunate.

Last week was the 1st anniversary of our Red Bank community meeting with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to talk about rising crime and other issues. Have things improved in a year? I’d say that some things are better but for the most part we are still dealing with crime, drugs, vagrancy and panhandling that everyone was up in arms about last year. Like it or not, Red Bank is not a sleepy little crossroads mill town any more. With the growth we’ve seen come problems, too. Don’t like the way things are being done? Vote in the June primary coming up and make your vote count.

Happy anniversary to Robin and Glenn Smith. Happy birthday to Alice Raffa, Joe Joyner, Roberta Pound, Jerry Snelgrove, Derrell Lambert, Sr., Deb Roof, Alissa Brown, Zach Huffines, and Clay Spence.
