Former Georgia star Herschel Walker thinks Major League Baseball is sad.

The Heisman Trophy winner thinks MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has not read Georgia’s voting rules.

Georgia’s rules aren’t restrictive. Colorado’s are. But Manfred jerked the All Star Game from Atlanta and awarded it to Denver.

“He’s not helping,” Herschel said. “He’s hurting black and brown people and lots of small businesses.”

Hershel is being generous.

I’m nominating Manfred for an award: My Sports Hypocrite of the Month.

My lawyers will be in touch with his lawyers to arrange the presentation.

To make it more hypocritical, Keith Olbermann called for a boycott of the Masters golf tournament last week.

Remember Olbermann?

He was the acid-tongued cable guy MSNBC ditched for undisclosed reasons.

Olbermann was fired abruptly, said Greg Sargent of The Washington Post. Online site Salon said

Online site Salon said NBC executives felt they could afford to fire Olbermann and “all the headaches he brings with him.”

I’m nominating Olbermann as runner up to Manfred for this month’s coveted Sports Hypocrite Award.

I’m also nominating the ESPN sports staff for a group award for their reporting on Manfred, MLB and the Masters.

Loaded language

Heres’ a sample of what ESPN palms off as fair and balanced reporting.

“Opinions about the controversial new Georgia voting law could be found across the state Saturday, as a small group of protesters spoke out about the measure near Augusta National, while the governor continued to lambast Major League Baseball for its decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta.

“About two dozen protesters turned out near Augusta National to object to the voting law during the third round of the Masters.

“The group held signs that said ‘Let Us Vote’ and ‘Protect Georgia Voting Rights,’ drawing both jeers and cheers from motorists.

“Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp meanwhile spoke at a restaurant miles from Truist Park where the 2021 MLB All-Star Game had been slated to be played before it was moved to Denver’s Coors Field earlier this month.

“In his remarks, Kemp stepped up his attack on MLB, saying the move politicized the sport and would hurt minority-owned businesses in the area.”

Note that ESPN inserted such slanted words as “controversial,” “lambast,” “stepped up his attack” and “politicized the sport.”

And one last award goes to Walker, my coveted “Tell It Like It is Award” for his honesty. Way to go, Herschel.
