Can you imagine this conversation at your local grocery store check out? “Did you find everything you need, ma’am?” the cashier asks. “I think so, but everything is so expensive. I’m glad to get to the checkout counter.” “We thank you for shopping at Big Brother Grocery Mart.” “Hey, why are you putting that big bag of expensive asparagus in with my items?” “Well, we have a Nutritional Food Standard that requires 15% of the food you buy must be green stuff that’s good for you.” “My family doesn’t like asparagus. I don’t think people will put up with being forced to buy 15% of expensive green stuff.” “You already do in your power bill. You are paying for expensive green power that you don’t want. Your utility must buy a certain amount of high-priced renewable power even if only a few customers actually want the stuff and are willing to pay for it.” “Why that’s outrageous!” “Tell me about it. I guess the politicians think they know what’s best for us.”
