Health wanted

We all have stressful days. Work, planning a special event, or even being a stay at home mom or dad can cause us daily stress.

How do you unwind?

Some people turn to a hobby or buy a treat to ease the stress. Others will have a glass of wine at the end of the day. But is it a healthy habit?

Drinking wine can have health benefits if consumed in moderation. Moderation is key.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, moderate drinking is one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men. One drink is considered as four ounces.

Drinking wine in moderate amounts can lower your risk for heart disease. Studies found that fermented foods, such as wine, contain living microorganisms similar to probiotics, which are healthy for your gut.

More benefits of drinking wine include:

• Reduced risk of colon cancer by 45% with consumption of red wine, according to the American Journal of Gastroenterology

• Reduced risk of cataracts

• Reduced risk of Prostate Cancer for men - drinking 4 or more glasses a week decreased chance of cancer by 60%

• Reduced risk of Dementia/Alzheimer’s by 37% for those 75 years and older who consumed 2 glasses of wine per day
