Juul to stop online sales of sweet vapes

Juul Labs won’t sell its sweet and fruity e-cigarette refill pods online any more.

Federal regulators appear ready to pull most nicotine vaping products off the market due to teen vaping, illnesses and deaths.

Juul is quietly planning a $125 million plant in Lexington County but local officials refer questions about the plant to the company.

Juul last year stopped sales of flavors including mango, fruit and cucumber in stores. It continued to sell them on its website, which has age controls.

Juul officials said its online sales represent less than 10% of its revenue.

Juul had $1.27 billion in sales through July 1, more than $100 million of it outside the US, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Juul is the e-cigarette market leader with 64% of sales in retail stores.

It has been blamed for a rise in underage vaping.

The company is under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission and federal prosecutors.

Juul said it will continue to sell tobacco, mint and menthol flavors in stores and online.
