Karen “Kay” Hunter Horton died just after noon Saturday,  August 4.  

The wife of West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton, she had been struggling with health issues for months.

Mrs. Horton passed away peacefully at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, her family said.  

She was born Dec.r 23, 1954, in Jefferson, SC to the late Robert Hunter and Sara Robertson Hunter.  

She grew up in Kershaw and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She received an Associate Degree in x-ray technology from Midlands Tech.  

Mrs. Horton worked for Moore Orthopaedic Clinic for more than 40 years as an x-ray technician and office manager.

She is survived by her husband Bobby, sister Mary (Ardell) Young of Camden, Angie (Roger) Faile of Kershaw and brother Robert K. (Delaine) Hunter, Ringgold, GA. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald M. Hunter and Larry E. Hunter.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m.  Saturday, August 11, at First Baptist Church,  400 State St., West Columbia. Family will receive friends before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 4898, West Columbia, SC 29171 or to the charity of one’s choice.
