The Sheriff’s Department recently received a shipment of dogs.

Stuffed bloodhound toys, that is.

They go by the name of K9 Lane and have a very special job.

Sitting 6-and-a-half inches high, complete with a duty vest and name tag, this toy is sure to bring smiles to those who receive him.

A product of the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association, this first round of SCSA K9s is named in honor of the late Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb who died in September 2019.

With 46 years in law enforcement and 26 of those as sheriff, Cribb touched the lives of many people throughout his career. Wellknown for his remarkable ability to comfort those in need and generate smiles allaround SCSA Cribb is dearly missed by all who knew him.

Our stock of furry friends were donated by Bernard Shealy, Thomas Harbison, and Thomas and Patsy Gainey.

These dogs are now headed over to our Victim Advocate team to give to children they encounter during case investigations. The stuffed animals will be a gift of comfort to a child in a time of need.

K-9 officers are an invaluable resource to any department fortunate to have a team available. We have eight K-9s ready to deploy, including 2-and-a-half-year-old Autumn the Bloodhound.

Autumn is specifically trained to search for lost children and elderly adults. She was donated as a puppy by a kind citizen and trained in-house.

All of our K-9 unit deputies are certified to be her handler during a call. She is also certified by the SC Police K9 Association.

Order your own K9 Lane or donate to another Sheriff’s Department straight from the SCSA store at www.sheriffsc.org . Proceeds from the sale of K9 Lane will go toward the SCSA Benevolent Fund.
