AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

American Legion Post 7 was busy last week with honors and happenings. At their monthly meeting July 14, state Rep. Chris Wooten presented a proclamation from the House of Representatives to Doris and Redd Reynolds for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Auxiliary and Post 7 for many years. Their dedication has been outstanding and they are well deserving of this honor.

Then Representative Wooten presented a proclamation from the State Senate to a surprised Mary Hazelten for her many years of service and support to our Veterans, the Auxiliary, and Post 7. She is most deserving.

Post 7 Commander David Griffith had previously been presented with the Quilt of Valor given to cover Veteran and combat service members touched by war with comfort and healing.

Patsy Horton, Ginger Rodgers, and Greylen Rodgers were honored for their work with the sale of poppies.

Representatives to Boys State and Girls State from Lexington, River Bluff and White Knoll High School were recognized.

Speaking for the girls was Hoda Abdalla and Cameron Beckum. For the boys, Nathan Seigler and Nathaniel Wilburn spoke and told of their wonderful experiences.

Linda Roemer is outgoing president of the Auxiliary and Linda Griffith is the incoming President.

Next year is the 100th anniversary of Post 7 which was the 7th post in SC to receive a charter.

Their “Materfest” on Thursday was quite a success with numerous baskets of “maters” ripe and ready for that great summertime sandwich!

Our Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce had a busy week with its monthly breakfast meeting and other events.

Former Chair Shelley Metropo was presented a vase of roses by Troy Simpson, incoming chair. Presiding was Otis Rawl, President/CEO. The keynote speaker was Town of Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green. He said the police department is always working on our safety. He reminded everyone to remove valuables from your vehicle, lock it, and close your garage door.

New board members announced were Janet Lehman, Mike White, and Shirley Towne. It was a tie for ambassador of the month between Manning Kolb and Ben Fuller.

On Wednesday, the Lexington and Irmo chambers held their annual Business Lexpo with over 100 vendors!

On August 14, J.R. Fennell, Lexington County Museum Director, will take you on a walk through Historical Lexington with pictures at the Lunch and Learn at Shiloh United Methodist Church. RSVP at 359-7586.
