Legion to sponsor 3rd Peel Lap

Pelion American Legion Post 101 will sponsor the 3d Pelion Peel Lap honoring 93-year-old Tom Peel. The event is March 14 beginning at 8 am. It will begin at the Pelion Walking Trail with registration being held the morning of the walk. Donations will be accepted and all funds will go to assist veterans. The walk is a 5K and everyone is invited to participate and support Mr. Peel and our veterans.

Pelion Post 101 has raffle tickets that will support the Legacy Scholarship Fund for children of veterans killed or wounded. See any member for purchase. Sonic cards are $5 each and rifle and pistol raffles are $5 each, 3 for $10 and 7 for $20.

Pelion High School’s Soil Judging Team landed a win in the recent S.C State FFA Soil Judging Contest. It’s a two-part competition that culminates in recognition, trips and prizes. Advisers Frank Stover and Jesse Zeaser coached Thomas Corley, Michael Fields, Savanna Pennington, and Bryson Shumpert in the classification of soils by characteristics, surface texture, subsoil permeability, rooting depth, erosion, drainage and slope, as well as land class and sub-knowledge is assessed class. This in-depth for points, which are then supplemented by the team selecting the appropriate recommended land treatments. Congratulations to this group of young students.

Pelion Library Hoststechnology training March 11 at 10 am for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. Preschool storytime will be March 11 at 11 am for ages birth to 5 years. Teen Scene meets March 12 at 6 pm to participate in a Crime Scene Investigation. This event is for grades 6-12 to discover how local law enforcement does investigations and uses blood splatter analysis. This event is in partnership with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Pelion Senior Center participants will go grocery shopping March 6. The group will attend Lexington First Baptist on March 10 for a social. March 11 activities will include Rescue Church crafts. On March 12 the group will travel to Beulah for a social.

Pelion High Women’s varsity soccer pm. PHS Golf team meets River Bluff at plays at Strom Thurmond March 10 at 7 Golden Hills March 9 at 4:15 pm.
