Lexington County School District 1 will hold a board meeting of the district’s Architectural Selection Committee Friday. The meeting will be in a conference room of Lexington County School District One’s Central Services Building One, 100 Tarrar Springs Road in Lexington, Jan. 11, at 8 am. The committee meets in Executive Session for the purpose of conducting interviews with selected architectural firms and possible receipt of legal advice where the legal advice relates to a proposed contract with a firm. Minutes will not be disclosed due to attorney, client privilege.

Medical open house

All Medical of West Columbia will host an open house at 1074 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, Jan. 18 from 11 am - 4 pm. The family owned medical equipment business has served the greater Columbia area since 1992. The public is invited to attend. Beverages and light hors d’ oeuvres will be served. Quit smoking in 2019

Are you trying to quit smoking once and for all? Lexington Medical Center will offer a series of free smoking cessation classes. The 2-hour classes will meet once a week for 8 weeks. The Freedom from Smoking program is free to anyone who wants to quit smoking. The first session of classes are underway from 6 - 8 pm inside Lexington Medical Center Lexington, 811 West Main Street, Lexington. Additional sessions will begin in March in Irmo, May in Lexington, July in West Columbia and September in Lexington and Batesburg-Leesville. To register, call 803-358-6180. You must register for the class in advance.

LMC earns prestigious distinction

Lexington Medical Center’s Surgical Intensive Care unit has received a silver Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for outstanding patient care and outcomes. Only 3 hospitals in South Carolina received this award. The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s Healthy Work Environment Standards.

New airport commissioners named

Hank J. Jibaja and Pat G. Smith have been appointed to the Richland-Lexington Airport Commission representing Lexington County. Jibaja is the Chief Information Officer at Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation. He lives in Lexington with his wife and 3 sons. Smith is the Agency Director for the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School and served as Mayor of the Town of Springdale from 1985-2014. Smith and his wife reside in Springdale. Both appointments are to replace expired terms on the Commission.
