Town of Lexington residents can rest easier. They live in the 12th safest community in South Carolina, according to a new Security Baron study. The independent security review website analyzed 2017 FBI data and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting data on crime rates. The statistics are 2-3 years old but was the latest available ahead of the 2018 Uniform Crime Report. They looked at murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, vehicle theft, and arson rates as well as median income. Lexington’s population is 21,434 with 7,825 households. The analysis found a median income of $65,019. Violent crime was 3.08 per 1,000 and 30 property crimes per 1,000. The safest cities found were Aiken, Mount Pleasant and Bluffton. The least safe were Darlington, Marlboro and Dillon. For study results: https://securitybaron.com/safe-cities/south-carolina/ . For county crime statistics, see page A3.
