Take a bow, Lexington County charity donors.

You are among the most giving counties in South Carolina.

A study by online Smart-Asset ranked Lexington County 7th in the state for charitable donations.

The study examined how much people donate as a percent of their net income and the proportion of people in a given county who made charitable donations.

With local residents’ help:

• Mission Lexington (formerly LICS) provided food for over 16,000 people last year and gave $171,105 worth of free items from their gift shop, according to their website.

• Central Carolina Community Foundation granted $720,973 to 75 Lexington nonprofits between July 2017 and June 2018. That came from 3,159 donors, said CCCF Communications Manager Cherise Arrendale.

SmartAsset evaluated 2016 IRS data to determine the amount that people donate as a percent of income.

They then divided each county’s total charitable donations by its total net income to see how much county residents donate relative to their income.

Lexington County residents donated 33% of their income in 2016, according to the study.

54.5% of residents made charitable donations.

Also on the top 10 list were Beaufort, Greenville, Charleston, York, Richland, Lancaster, Georgetown, Aiken and Edgefield counties.
