Lexington mask law expires

Governor’s mandates for town businesses remain active

Lexington has allowed its required masks-in-public law to expire.

Although other communities are extending theirs, town officials saw no reason to do it, too.

“It was not discussed at the Council meeting,” town spokesperson Laurin Barnes said.

“All of the governor’s mandates surrounding in-town businesses are in place.

“This was simply the Town Emergency Ordinance that expired.”

State and national health officials have warned of a possible fall surge in covid-19 infections.

But local business owners fear such dire warnings will harm a fledgling economic recovery.

Positive SC test results are rising due to greater testing.

But Lexington County has reported just 2 deaths in the last 10 days.

SC’s increase in positive test results rose only 2.3% compared to 4.0% nationally.
