Lexington plans to widen North Lake Drive

Posted

The 3rd phase to improve Lexington’s North Lake Corridor is set to begin this spring.

Phase III includes corridor Improvements from existing Dreher Street to N. Lake at Sunset Boulevard. It expands North Lake Drive to Herndon Chevrolet.

The project is funded by the hospitality tax proceeds. Construction is to begin in May or June.

The project also includes changes to the entrances and student drop-off locations at Lexington Elementary and Lexington Middle. That is managed by Lexington School District 1.

Starting at the end of the 1-Way Pair to the N. Lake Drive at Sunset Boulevard intersection, the improvements will focus on safety and operations along the corridor that serves over 40,000 vehicles per day.

Phase I of the plan includes the widening of N. Lake from the 1-Way Pair split at Church Street to the existing Dreher Street. The objective of the SC-6, 1-Way Pair Project is to make the intersection of Main Street at N. Lake flow more efficiently.

Phase II includes the Harmon Street Extension and relocation of Dreher Street to N. Lake at Azalea Drive.

In his State of the Town address, Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall said the town is spending $9 million in road and traffic improvements.
