Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green has been honored with a top state law enforcement award.

US Attorney Sherri Lydon announced that Green was honored by her office, the SC Law Enforcement Officers’ Association and the Strom Thurmond Foundation as 1 of 4 officers given the 36th annual Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.

Chief Green embraces the community policing concept and strives to solve problems by building a partnership with the community.

“Despite his considerable achievements, Chief Green has maintained a reputation of both personal integrity and humility,” said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon who worked for Green before being elected sheriff.

“He is a role model for all law enforcement officers.”

Mayor Steve MacDougall said, “We are extremely proud of Chief Green and all he has accomplished in his exemplary career here.

“He is the ultimate professional, and it goes without saying his accolades are truly worthy. The Town of Lexington is fortunate to have Chief Green as our law enforcement leader.”

Chief Green began his career in law enforcement at the University of South Carolina Police Department as a reserve police officer.

After graduating from USC, he joined the Lexington Police Department in 1993. He rose through the ranks to become Police Chief on October 2, 2006.

Chief Green has a BA in Criminal Justice and an MPA from Strayer University.

He has earned other accreditations from the FBI National Academy and the Law Enforcement Executive Development Program.

Chief Green and his wife Melinda have 3 children and are active members of Brookland Baptist Church.
