Both winners from this week’s Athlete of the Week poll helped elevate their team to victory during holiday hoops tournaments.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Kaleb Evans

Lexington guard Kaleb Evans was named Athlete of the Week after helping lead Lexington to victories over Charlotte (FL) and Grovetown.

The game against Charlotte was part of the City of Palms Classic. Evans made his presence felt and scored 22 points on 9-15 shooting while adding six rebounds and five assists.

The Wildcats are off to a fast start this season and sit at 10-1 entering this week. Evans has been a key piece of the Wildcat core, contributing on a nightly basis. The junior is the No. 1 ranked combo guard in his class in the state.

Jenna Johnson

River Bluff’s Jenna Johnson earned Athlete of the Week honors after being named Player of the Game in the Gators’ win over Catawba Ridge during the Y.C. Winborn Showcase.

Johnson led the team in that game, recording a double-double and playing high-level basketball on both ends of the floor. She scored 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks in the victory.

The freshman has had an impressive start to her high school basketball career, ranking at the top of the team in points, rebounds, minutes and blocks per game.
