For a decade, the Lexington Sertoma Club has paid homage to the football rivalry between Clemson University and the University of South Carolina.
On Oct. 18, the 10th edition of the Clemson-Carolina Big Thursday Celebration was held at the Lexington Municipal Conference Center. A roomful of Tiger and Gamecock supporters gathered together to relive fond memories from the rivalry with former players. Among the four guest speakers were returnee Dell Wilkes, a graduate of Irmo High School and 4-year letterman of the Gamecocks. He was joined onstage by former teammate linebacker/offensive guard Joe Doyle and former Clemson players Andy Cheatham, a member of the 1981 national championship team, and Scott Enzor, a walk-on linebacker.
The quartet told stories from their playing days both on and off the field. At the end of their presentations, all four men talked about their devotion to Jesus Christ and how their lives were positively affected by college football.
Net proceeds from the event will suport the Sertoma Club’s charities.
