Library June Book Club begins

The Gilbert-Summit Branch Library invites you to their June book club. Beginning Thursday, June 24, 5:30 - 6:30, members will discuss a chosen book.

Members may choose the book they wish to read and discuss. The book choices are: “Before She was Helen” by Caroline Cooney, “Sold on a Monday” by Kristina McMorris, and “A Man Called Ove” by Frederik Backman. You can vote by ballot or on their Goodreads page. For questions or email Angie at abrooks@lex.lib.sc.us.

Lake Murray VFW 6740 held their annual Memorial Day program with special guests from state government, Batesburg-Leesville Middle School students, B-L JROTC Cadets and a Gold Star Mother. VFW 6740 honored the sacrifices of local heroes whose lives were lost in combat.

Gilbert High student Alexis Deason has won the Center for Media Arts Student of the Year Award. She was chosen for outstanding work in the Digital Photography program.

Gilbert Elementary School’s PTO have announced their $500 Scholarship winner is GHS student Jackson Grigsby. He attended Gilbert Primary and Gilbert Elementary. He will attend Coastal Carolina University.

Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary has now reached 75% of their “For Them” goal to buy needed items.
