Library to celebrate St. Pat’s Day

Get ready for Saint Patrick’s Day with the Tween Extreme program at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library. There will be a Lucky Charms scavenger hunt March 12 at 4 pm. Participants will hunt for Lucky Charms and marshmallows following the provided clues. The lucky student who finds the most will win a pot of gold. Tween Extreme is open to students in the 4th through 7th grades. Books and Beyond participants will enjoy learning about the human brain and how it works March 19. Librarian Louise Taylor says they have many new DVD movies and several good books for sale. For information on programs and the library, call 785-5387.

Dee Dee, a Pot Belly Pig, recently celebrated Nation Pig Day at Cotton Branch Farm Animal Sanctuary. Dee Dee is a rescued pig who is enjoying a new life at the farm. She has been dealt a rough hand, but is recovering well from a torn tendon. Dee Dee is said to be a sweet and spicy lady who is available for a monthly sponsor. If interested, call 704-712-1802.

Holly W.I.R.E. (Women Involved in Rural Electrification), held their first meeting of 2020 with Guide and Light W.I.R.E. groups with Mid-Carolina. The guest speaker was Adrienne Bellinger, Executive Director for The Courage Center. The center is a focused setting for young people and their families who are on their journey to recovery from substance and use dis orders. W.I.R.E. members are involved in community outreach fundraisers and others throughout the year. For information on joining, call Lacy Ridgell at 749-6471.

Congratulations to the Gilbert Middle School Archery Team, which placed second at the recent Regionals. Congratulations to GMS student Troy Buck for placing third in the tournament.

Gilbert High School FFA students visited with state Sen. Katrina Shealy last week and attended the SC Future Farmers of America Legislators Appreciation Day at the SC State House. Afterwards, they had their picture taken with Senator Shealy.
