AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club served about 300 pancake and sausage suppers Feb. 11. The fundraiser was held at Cayce United Methodist Church. Proceeds will benefit projects that to help people with eye surgery costs and shopping trips for children who otherwise could not afford it.

West Columbia’s third annual Kinetic Derby Day is April 25, when the streets of West Columbia will be filled with art, kinetic floats, and soapbox racing. The event spurs creative thinking, competition, and family fun as teams build unusual vehicles and awe-inspiring art installations.

The day begins with the kinetic sculpture parade in which local and regional artists showcase human-powered, handmade floats that use gravity and kinetic energy to move along the route.

The City of West Columbia partnered with Cola Town Bike Collective for a 7-hour build day for Kinetic Derby Day. The day included live music by Blocker and a live Mural Painting by Easel Cathedral.
