Local athletes earn All-State honors as spring season ends

Coaches associations from South Carolina recently released their All-State selections for baseball, softball, boys soccer and girls soccer, and many athletes from Lexington County made the cut.

Local athletes earn All-State honors as spring season ends

Coaches associations from South Carolina recently released their All-State selections for baseball, softball, boys soccer and girls soccer, and many athletes from Lexington County made the cut.

44 athletes earned a spot on an All-State list. Softball had the most players selected with baseball close behind.

Gray Collegiate led the area with 10 player selections across all of the All-State teams. Chapin was second with seven, followed by Gilbert with six.

The War Eagles boys soccer team was the most represented with four of its players earning a nod. Seniors Ben Richards and Carlos Vasquez earned a spot on the All-State team after leading the team to another state title match. Juniors Jay Etheredge and Junior Gonzalez also earned the accomplishment and will have the chance to do so again next season.

The championship-winning Lexington baseball team had two players make the 5A All-State team. Will Burgess and Jackson Burton helped lead the Wildcats and captured the program’s first baseball championship in nearly a decade.

Airport, Gilbert and Gray Collegiate also had two All-State baseball selections.

Gray softball has two selections on its team which won the 2A championship. Aspen Boulware and Maddox Long have been two of the most consistent players in the state, performing at a high level daily.

Seven local athletes made the 5A girls soccer All-State team, with three coming from Chapin. There were no 4A girls or boys soccer All-State selections.
