Which one will you wear today? Masks are part of our daily attire. They don’t have to be boring.

Popular masks have college favorites like Gamecocks and Tigers, sports, pets, patriotic, flowers and business logos. Disposables are also available and many businesses provide them for customers.

Donna Bundrick Griffin tells us how to maintain healthy bodies include more fruits and vegetables for vitamins A and C, fiber, potassium, thiamin, niacin and iron. Enjoy them raw, cooked in a small amount of liquid or steamed for maximum nutrition.

Our dear friends Marvin and Jean Barfield gave us Japanese persimmons which we had never had. They are absolutely delicious. Love them for breakfast with my whole grain bagel spread with Neufchatel cream cheese.

Suggestions for good health:

• Drink plenty of water.

• Enjoy fresh fruits as a dessert.

• For lunch, have a veggie sandwich on whole grain or multi-grain bread with balsamic vinaigrette dressing for flavor.

• For dinner, stir fry chopped vegetables in olive oil with cooked meat or tofu cubes.

• Healthy snacks include a variety of nuts or low fat cheeses with whole grain wheat crackers and water or seltzer water.

• Support our local farmers, local farmers markets and local road-side markets for the freshest fruits and vegetables.

LOCAL FOODIES will be able to explore local dining in the next 11 days during Restaurant Week. Local restaurants will offer special deals through Jan. 17.

Restaurants participating include 1801 Grille, Black Rooster, Catch Seafood, Kao Thai Cuisine, Lizard’s Thicket and Za’s Brick Oven Pizza. A full list of participating restaurants is on Restaurant Week’s website.

William and Kelsey Lynch visited the zoo last weekend and took their 9-month old, Taylor Grace. William reports she loved it and especially petting the goats.

HAVE YOU noticed the large pavilion being built at the Icehouse Amphitheater? Mayor Steve MacDougall said. “Starting in the spring, the brick, open-air building will be home for The Market. Vendors will use this space when concerts start.

ANNE BULL has some good news on the Wingard’s hen house. Ronnie and Joy’s new hens are laying eggs, not pecking them. Joy now wants Peking ducks. It sounds like the Wingard’s are off to an egg-cellent 2021.

BRENDA MAXWELL reports covid delayed but did not prevent Vicki Hudson, State Chairman for Distinguished Young Women Scholarship, Leadership and Talent Program from enabling a representative to be selected for the 2021 national competition. Ella Froedge of Palmetto High in Williamston won $3,600 in college scholarships.

Best wishes to Ivanova Rodriguez, MD, on retiring after 9 years at Lexington Medical Center. She plans to sleep late, travel and just enjoy life. Her colleagues honored her with a dinner at Travinia’s last week.
