Looking for life in all the wrong places

Around ChApin & irmo

When I ventured to Newberry last week to meet family at the Lowes store, I got confused as to where to turn to get there. After turning around in several strip malls, I finally found my destination.

I discovered that I was looking for Lowes in all the wrong places! I had to turn around many times to find it. When I got there, my mom and I had fun chatting and sitting on the rocking chairs in the front of the store. Sometimes we look in the wrong places for where we want to go in life, and therefore waste lots of our lives and time. But we eventually “get there.”

Because I am a creative type of person, I love to visit Lowes and stores similar to them. I don’t see wood, and pieces and parts, I see building blocks to build neat creative and finished projects. I have an “ unfinished project” in my backyard, the fire pit and family area. It still is a pile of sand, partially laid out bricks, and an outside kitty litter box. Perhaps my next trip to Lowes will inspsire me to complete the project.

July has the honor of being the national anti-boredom month, baked bean month, and the national month of grilling out, ice-cream, blueberries, and picnics. I will eventually celebrate all of these in the family fire pit area.

Take the time to enjoy family and friends this month before August arrives, with its busy back-to-school activities.

Legos are the best building blocks for a child’s brain. They help problem-solving skills, stir creativity and help fine motor skills. The Chapin Library has a Lego Mania block party on July 20, at 3:15 p.m.

The Irmo Library will have a self-defense class with the USC Division of Law Enforcement and Safety, for 6-12th grades July 25 at 3 p.m. Registration is required. For information, call (803) 798-7880, ext. 2.

The SAT ACT, PSAT, or AP exams are part of the adventure to college. The Test Prep 101 class at the Irmo Library July 28 at 3 p.m. will help prepare students. Learning Express Library is a resource to help students achieve educational and career goals. The interactive online platform features over 700 practice tests, tutorials, and eBooks. Registration suggested. For more information, call (803) 798-7880, ext. 2.
