Meals on Wheels celebrates its volunteers

Lexington County’s Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver over 160,000 meals annually.

The Meals on Wheels Program provides senior participants five meals per week to support proper nutrition, maintain overall health, and support continued independence.

Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is honoring those volunteers and recruiting new ones at their Star Struck summer event Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at the Ice House Amphitheater.

This event is open to the community and will be a way to recruit new volunteers for this vital service. Canned good donations are welcome.

This Summer’s Pop-Culture Event features a free movie (in the vein of Stranger Things, E.T. and The Goonies, rated PG-13), music, popcorn, food trucks, vendors and prizes.

Current sponsors include Free Times, WXRY, Faithful Foods, ADM Signs, Scratch N’ Spin Records, Turntable City, Heartstrings Hospice, Old School Player and Palmetto Mobile Arcade.

Vendors include PK BBQ, Lil Duck Kombucha, 14 Carrot Whole Foods, Pop Cult Inc and MaxLiving Lexington.

Food trucks include Scott Benny’s and Triple Scoop Ice Cream. The movie will start at 8:30 p.m.

Celebrate our community’s Meals on Wheels volunteers and take a trip back in time with this 80s-themed fun night out. Break out your best 80s garb, and don’t forget your shades.
