Midland Dixie Youth baseball returning to World Series

The Midland Dixie Youth Minors All-Stars boys baseball team won the 2018 3-A state Tournament played this past weekend in Moncks Corner.

Based in Pine Ridge and consisting of players ages 9-10, the Minors qualified for the Dixie Youth World Series which begins in Lumberton, N.C., on Aug. 4.

Midland Dixie defeated Green Sea-Floyds by scores of 2-1 and 12-1 to advance to the DYB World Series.

To qualify for the state tournament, the Midland Minors won their sub-district, district, and their bracket side of the state championship, said Stephen Knight, President of Midland Dixie Youth Baseball.

The Midland Dixie Youth Baseball All-Stars Ozone and All-Stars Coaches Pitch teams won the DYB World Series in August of 2016.

Knight called the win Saturday one of the league’s “wonderful accomplishments.” He said Pine Ridge is a small, but tight-knit community that takes pride in all aspects of our youth’s lives.”

This past season, Midland Dixie Youth sent all five of its divisions (T-Ball, Coaches Pitch, Minors, Ozone and Dixie Boys) to the state Championship Tournament for South Carolina.

He said it was a feat unprecedented in South Carolina. “Our season started the first week in February with practices, and our regular season began with our opening day the first weekend in March,” he said. “These kids and coaches have dedicated themselves to their season, and worked every single day on being the best that they can be. Well, it has paid off in a huge way.”

The Coaches’ Pitch has also qualified for its World Series that will take place in Lumberton, N.C. as well.
