Ministry sells quilts to fund scholarships

Posted

“The Henhouse is a Christian ministry of believers in Christ who share and minister in our growing and changing community to all.”

The Henhouse Ministry was established in early spring of 1977. A few ladies in a rural church wanted to help others.

To do this, funds were needed. So they decided to make and sell quilts. Soon, a quilt was sold and money given to a church. The Ministry had begun.

During the first year, the ladies began making crafts as well. They were sold to visitors who brought quilt tops or just dropped in to see what was going on.

A gift room was arranged as materials were salvaged and converted into dozens of items. “Don’t throw it away; give it to us” is the collective voice of the Willing Workers.

The Willing Workers attended 18 different churches The Henhouse soon became an independent Ministry.

That was 42 years ago. The Henhouse Ministry has come a long way. Many beloved Willing Workers have passed during these years.

Currently, there are 18 active members. The member’s average age is 70. The only requirement to become a member of the group is to be willing to work cheerfully.

The Henhouse is open every Wednesday from 9 am to 3 pm. During other weekdays most crafts are made at home.

The Henhouse sells bed quilts, lap quilts, pillows, casserole carriers, bowl holders, coasters, pot holders, dish towels, aprons, The Henhouse Cookbook, Noises in the Henhouse Book, stuffed animals and more.

Quilt sizes are available in twin, double and queen. Custom quilts made of t-shirts, dress or golf shirts are available.

Donations of material are always welcome. Your donation today is a blessing tomorrow.

Twice yearly a prize quilt raffle is held. Two yard sales are scheduled yearly in May and November along with the cake sales and quilt raffles to help support our Scholarship Fund.
