Monday’s Memorial Service

The Pelion Ruritan Club will present the 6th annual Veterans Memorial Service Monday, May 25, at 10 am. Bring lawn chairs as no chairs will be furnished this year.

Masks are optional. Practice social distancing and Ruritan members will monitor to be sure guidelines are obeyed. No handshakes, please.

We are pleased to have the Soldiers of Faith again this year to present their patriotic music. Ed Wilkes will be here with his bagpipes. The SC Patriot Guard Riders will stand guard around the monument.

American Legion Pelion Post #101 will assist with lowering the old flag and raising the new. Tom Peel, the oldest living veteran in our community, will assist with this ceremony. Otto Hage, PHS Bands Director, will present the ringing of the hour and play taps at the end of the program.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department ent a 21-gun salute. Our Honor Guard will pres-speaker will be Col. Michael Haggard, son of local resident Jean Haggard. Please plan to enjoy a time of tribute to our fallen heroes.

The Pelion Ruritan welcomes 8 new members: Steve Acuff, Gail P Corley, Lois DeLuney, Lorraine Hayes, Faye L. Lee, Alice Mascio, Barbara Poole, and Jerry Williams.

Happy birthday to Roy Gunter. Happy anniversary to Billy and Iris Jeffcoat.

DISTRICT ONE WILL honor the class of 2020 with graduation ceremonies at each school’s football stadium. Only 2 family members will receive tickets to attend. Pelion High graduation will be Wednesday, May 27, at 8 am. Weather make-up days will be May 30, 31, and June 2, 4, and 5. The district will mail each graduate a DVD.
