moms will get a special gift with their meals this week. Each mom will receive a beautiful flower handmade by one of the Gilbert-Summit Senior Center crafters. Each of the colorful flowers is one of a kind. The GSSC members will have a Mother’s Day appreciation May 10. Jeff Long will provide the entertainment and each mother will be recognized. This week the members enjoyed Senior Citizen Day at the SC fair grounds and an introduction to computers and laptops taught by Mary Mc-Bride of the Gilbert-Summit Library. Director Donna Neel invites seniors age 60 and above to join them. For information, call 892-5745 to learn more about the GSSC.

Last week, Lexington County School District One officially named the new Gilbert elementary school Centerville Elementary School. The school will house kindergarten through 5th grades. The new elementary school is designed for 1,000 students, but can accommodate 1,200. The property the new school will be built on is near the original Centerville School which was built in the early 1900s. The new school should be open within a year.

Gilbert Elementary PTO members celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by giving the teachers a brownie ice cream sundae social. The event was held in their media center and GES teachers enjoyed their special day very much. The PTO members are also selling blankets as a fundraiser for GES. Each blanket is navy blue and has a white outline of the state with Gilbert and a red heart. The blankets are $25 and can be purchased at Morgan’s Pharmacy in Gilbert.
