There’s nothing quite like a good murder mystery to capture people’s attention.
More than 350 people came to downtown Lexington Saturday evening, June 23.
They were there to hear about some of the murders and duels that occurred on Lexington’s Main Street in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Attendees followed Lexington County Museum Director J.R. Fennell and part-time historical interpreter Ken Robison as they told stories from Lexington’s past.
These included the duel between Baylis Earle Boozer and Frederick Sims Hendrix on Main Street in 1861 and the murder of Callie Caughman in the Palmetto Collegiate Institute building on Hendrix Street.
Attendees also learned about the four major fires on Lexington’s Main Street and the history of many of the structures on Main Street between Church Street and Lake Drive. The next Murders and Mysteries tour will take place in downtown Lexington Saturday, October 20.
