NASCAR bans Confederate Flag

Posted

Since its early days in the Carolinas, the Confederate flag was visible at NASCAR tracks.

The Stars & Bars battle flag dotted infield campsites and waved in grandstands.

As NASCAR comes to grips with race relations, the flag is no longer welcome.

It has been banned at races and all NASCAR venues, a dramatic step for a group steeped in Southern tradition.

The ban was announced before last week’s race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, where Wallace drove Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 Chevrolet with a #BlackLivesMatter paint scheme.
