In the early 1900s, Centerville School was opened near the town of Gilbert.
It began as a 1-teacher school.
Within a few years, a more modern 2-teacher school was built.
In 2000, the original 2-room school became a home.
Available maps and documents still refer to this as the Centerville area.
Lexington District 1 administration is excited about honoring the history of education in Gilbert by naming a new school Centerville Elementary School.
The new school is scheduled for construction at US 1 and Rice Drive in Gilbert.
The district chooses names with historical significance for schools using feedback from parents, community members and students.
