New Gilbert school to open in August

Posted

The new Centerville Elementary will be a 128,000-square-foot school for 1,000 students.

It will open in August at 4147 Augusta Highway on 22.57 acres in Gilbert.

The Gilbert attendance area currently serves about 1,571 pre-kindergarten through 5th graders.

The proposed attendance zone adds a second pre-K tho Grade 5 elementary school in Gilbert. When CES opens, Gilbert Primary School will also become a pre-K to Grade 5 renamed Gilbert Elementary.

Both schools will offer Spanish immersion.

Parents have said they are concerned about bus transportation to and from day cares on Broad Street and splitting immersion classes between 2 schools.

The district plans to provide transportation to Broad Street daycares.

The building at 314 Main Street will be refurbished and open in 2 years as an Early Childhood Center 3-and 4-year-old early childhood and kindergarten classes for the entire Gilbert area.

When both schools open in the fall, they will be equipped with flexible furniture. Teachers and students can move, rearrange and re-purpose it.
