Airport valet charged with taking Toyota

A 27-year-old Columbia man faces charges of taking a woman’s car from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Shaquvis Marquise Darnell Dev Smith turned himself in Monday.

He is charged with using a vehicle without permission.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to the Republic Parking valet booth regarding the complaint from Joyce Johnson stating that her car was gone, according to an incident report.

Johnson said, on July 9, she valet parked her 2008 Toyota 4Runner at Columbia Metropolitan Airport. The incident report stated, when Johnson returned a day later, Republic Parking employees advised her that they could not locate her car.

Smith was issued an $8,000 personal recognizance bond and is due back in court on Aug. 29.

18-year-old man killed in

crash near Irmo

An Irmo teen has been killed in a 2-vehicle crash north of Irmo Sunday.

2 others were injured, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of Dreher Shoals Road, on SC 6 about a half a mile north of the Town of Irmo, according to Trooper Sonny Collins with SC Highway Patrol.

Officials say a 1994 Honda Civic, driven by James M Gladish, of Kingston Forest Drove in Irmo, was traveling west on Dreher Shoals Road while a 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling east on the road. The driver of the SUV attempted to turn left into a private driveway, turning in front of the Honda, causing the 2 vehicles to crash, Collins says.

Gladish, who was not seat belted, died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger in the Honda were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Lexington man sentenced to 15 years for child abuse

James C. Hester, Sr., 61, pled guilty Thursday, July 11 to criminal sexual conduct with a minor for sexually abusing a child under the age of 11.

The child reported the abuse occurred over the course of a year, beginning in the summer of 2017, when she was 9 years old.

Hester had a previous conviction for Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature from 2011 that was originally charged as Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor - First Degree.

Hester is required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to electronic monitoring upon his release from the Department of Corrections.

The case was prosecuted by 11th Circuit Senior Assistant Solicitor Rhonda Patterson.

Lexington County man convicted for drugs

Marshall Mack, 41, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Mack was sentenced to 10 years, suspended upon the service of 7 years in prison, on the heroin and crack cocaine charges. These charges are classified as “serious offenses” under South Carolina law.

The sentence was handed down by Circuit Court Judge Roger L. Couch.

Mack had previously been convicted of drug offenses, including distribution of crack cocaine, along with prior convictions for criminal domestic violence and failure to stop for a blue light.

Lexington man charged with assault, kidnapping

A Gilbert man is accused of kidnapping a man and a woman July 3 and forcing them to drive to an ATM after he had an argument with the man about money.

Michael Eugene Bryant, 44, is charged with 2 counts of kidnapping and 1 count of second-degree assault and battery, according to arrest warrants.

“Based on the information investigators gathered during interviews, Bryant went to the male victim’s house and assaulted him while demanding money,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “After assaulting the man, Bryant threatened to kill him and the victim’s girlfriend, who was also in the home, if they didn’t drive him to get money from an ATM.”

Bryant then forced the man and woman to drive him to the 44 Truck Stop on Pond Branch Road, according to Koon.

“The male victim told deputies he went inside the truck stop and called 911 while Bryant and the female victim waited outside,” Koon said. “That was our first call about the situation and we responded to begin our investigation.”

Bryant was arrested without incident.

A man and a woman face drug possession charges after a deputy stopped them Thursday, July 11 in Gilbert driving a car reported stolen.

Stephanie Yvonne Farmer, 43, and Bobby Ray Wood, 37, are charged with possession of less than 1 gram of meth, according to arrest warrants.

“A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the car Farmer and Wood were riding in along Goldie Road after confirming it was reported stolen,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Before towing the vehicle, deputies located a black purse that contained drug paraphernalia and two clear plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be meth.”

Deputies also found a black bag that contained a digital scale with powdery and crystal-like residue on it, according to Koon. Another digital scale with a powdery substance on it was located in the glove box.
