1 arrested, 1 sought in drive-by shooting

A suspect is in custody and another is being sought in connection to a drive-by shooting in a Lexington subdivision earlier this month.

Colen Deanthony Simms, 19, is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

Investigators have obtained warrants for the arrest of Luther Monroe Harris on 2 counts of attempted murder.

Detectives determined Simms and Harris fired multiple shots from their car at 2 people standing in front of a Blue Lake Lane home Aug. 2, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.

The dispute allegedly started over money.

One person was shot in the lower body and is expected to make a full recovery, Koon said.

Investigators are actively searching for Harris.

Simms is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a magistrate judge denied him bond.

Pelion police seek IGA burglar

Pelion police are seeking a man believed to be involved in a burglary of the IGA grocery store.

Officials say the incident occurred at the Shumpert’s IGA on Aug. 13 at 4 am.

The suspect was seen leaving the store in a purplish/blue minivan.

15-year-old arrested in armed robbery

Lexington police have arrested a suspect in a armed robbery on East Main Street last week.

Friday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the Cedarcrest Village shopping center, located at 955 East Main St. in Lexington, for an armed robbery.

When officers arrived they met with a man who stated that he had just been robbed of his mobile phone by a white male with a handgun.

A Lexington Police Department K-9 team began a track that led officers to an apartment complex within the Cedarcrest Village Apartments.

An officer was able to talk to the suspect on the mobile phone that had been stolen. He began negotiating with the suspect to surrender and minutes later the suspect opened the door to the apartment. He was arrested without incident by officers.

The suspect was 15 years old, and his name will not be released due to being a juvenile.

He was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice awaiting court and his case will be forwarded to the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office Family Court for prosecution.

Swansea man charged in shooting

Lexington County deputies arrested a man accused of shooting someone outside a Swansea grocery store last Tuesday.

Akeem Kantrell Mack, 34, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

Mack got into an argument with another man in the store’s parking lot and shot the man in the lower body, said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.

The Sheriff’s Department handled the investigation at the request of the Swansea Police Department.

Mack was being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a magistrate judge set his bond at $45,000.
