AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

West Columbia Police officers Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison; Lieutenant Boyce; Captain Hook; and Sergeant Myers are all participating in “No Shave November” to raise funds.

There is a “before” shot on the West Columbia Police Department Facebook page of them. Support the West Columbia Police Officers Foundation, and Serve and Connect by sending donations to: WCPOF, Attn: Sergeant David Myers, PO Box 4044, West Columbia, SC 29171.

Many of us are looking ahead to Thanksgiving and time with family. While we are enjoying the food, fun and fellowship, there are some people around us who may need assistance. The West Columbia Police Department will hold a food drive at the Bi-Lo on Augusta Road Nov. 9, to collect food for families that need assistance.

You may drop your food donations off at the West Columbia Police Department. The Police Department will deliver food baskets Thanksgiving week. Monetary donations will be converted to gift cards to purchase food directly from Bi-Lo for the food drive.

Nature in the Park was conducted at Cayce’s 12,000 Year History Park Saturday. It included three programs to identify the birds and wildlife that exist in the area by the Congaree River.

The Bird Watching Trail Walk began at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. There are 139 species of birds reported at the 12,000 Year History Park. There was also an America The Wild session presented by Riverbanks Zoo Educational Services and Night Watch, a program guided by a S.C. Wildlife Naturalist.
