Oaklawn Cemetery Gets Cleaned Up, Peanut Party Entertainment Announced

Posted

There was a great turnout for the Oaklawn Cemetery cleanup. This event was a joint effort between the Pelion Ruritan and American Legion Post 101. Members of Pelion Church of the Nazarene and the Methodist Church also came out to assist. We were able to completely finish one side of the cemetery, which included cutting tree limbs, cleaning years of old dried leaves and debris and removing vines from the fence. Another day will be scheduled to do the other side and all volunteers are appreciated.

The Pelion Peanut Party returns Nov. 12-13. Saturday entertainment will include the Capital City Clogging Company from noon until 1 p.m. The Rhythmics Performing Arts Rhythm Company will perform from 1 to 2 p.m.; The 803 will be on stage from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and Civil Remedy will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Afterward, Steele Justice will perform from 8 until 10 p.m. Pelion Ruritan will be selling boiled peanuts on Friday beginning after the blessing of the pots at 5:30 until 10 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Please come out and support all the events of this festival. Proceeds go towards scholarships for the Pelion High students.

The Pelion Branch Library will host Tween Extreme on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. The event will feature tweens competing against each other to create the best looking cupcakes. Bragging rights will be awarded to the winner.

Happy birthday to Amanda Caughman and Blaine Olawsky.
