Of liars and lost causes

Posted

Just when I thought the political nonsense in Washington was going to take a brief respite, I concluded that it is simply business as usual. The only break is until the next news cycle.

Unfortunately, because we elect idiots who have nothing better to do than heap hot excrement over one another, we deserve the people we have in power. I am convinced that we are all enslaved in this process. Corruption and disruption seem to be the order of the day.

Politicians have managed to manipulate whites against people of color, men against women and other groups, Democrats against Republicans, even spouses against spouses, and yes, right against wrong. Whatever happened to a sense of decency between people who disagree? It seems gone forever.

I have been a registered Democrat all my life and have never been more ashamed to admit that than I am today. As voters “candidate shop” to find what they want in a leader, all they can find on the Democratic side are haters, not leaders.

No one seems to be for anything, rather against everything, more specifically one candidate—Trump. As I watch the 7 dwarfs arguing about who can go toe to toe with President Trump, it occurs to me that none of them inspire me to get behind anything they are saying, comparing crazy undoable liberal ideas over other even crazier and more liberal criteria, which will surely cost more money.

You can’t have more people riding in the cart than you have pulling the cart. To promise everything from forgiving college debt to a check disguised as a “Freedom Dividend” is simply not doable.

The country only takes in about $4 trillion a year and many of the socialist candidates are proposing giving and/or forgiving over 10 times that each year. The people pulling the cart need help.

George Orwell wrote, “A people that elect corrupt politicians, impostors, thieves and traitors are not victims, but accomplices.” Amen! Half truths flow back and forth. Those who lie to the government are thought liars, while those in government who lie to us are just politicians. Political language is designed to make lies sound like truth. Next thing you know they will want to make murder respectable. Enough already.

We end up with a nation of victims who seek comfort in their ignorance. All they will find is they have become the sheep and have empowered the government to take on the role of wolves.

True patriots will stand up to the government and not seek solutions that the government should not be in the role of delivering. If you are content to fill your stomach by emptying your mind you have already been defeated.

Personally, I like Mark Twain’s solution: “Politicians and diapers must be changed for the same reasons.” Today, keeping out of politics is harder than ever. All issues are political issues and by their nature most are based on fears, lies, evasions and hatred and not what’s in the best interest of a country.

Politics was never about truth but about power. It should be about people’s lives. We cannot and should not be held hostage to political correctness. Our political leaders will only change when the people who elect them change.

When political leaders cease to speak to their enemies, their cause is already lost. A true friend will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
