One woman’s call to healing

Ifind the most interesting ministries in unexpected locations.

This one is in Gaston.

It isn’t new, but it’s new to me.

There is Hope Healing Center was started 20 years ago by Evangelist Ann Tanui.

Ann struggled with depression, anxiety and panic attacks which led to agoraphobia. She said she really needed healing, but didn’t know how to get it.

A friend gave her a video by Benny Hinn in which a girl in a wheelchair was healed by the power of Jesus.

“Could he heal me too?” she thought.

To answer that question, she dove into the bible every day. Sometimes for hours on end.

Then she had a dream that encouraged her to read the book of Luke.

Reading it, she felt a call to preach the gospel.

She was incredulous until another dream of God told her, “I called you to preach about healing because you know what it’s like to need healing.”

She started preaching and teaching at the Gaston Civic Center. Many homeless people came to hear her and seek help.

Then the ministry moved into the old Isle of Palms Motel where there were a few rooms for homeless people to stay.

The ministry has continued to grow, and today people can get clothes, food, counseling and ministering with the word of God.

Ann holds monthly conferences on healing and restoration.

She and her husband Shadrack are true believers of the highest order and have dedicated their lives to helping others. They say it is a place of spiritual neutrality where people of different faiths and cultures can come together.
