Since arriving from Columbia in 2014, the Blowfish baseball team have embraced its role as Lexington County’s “home team”.

Under local owners Vicki and Bill Shanahan, the team has not been shy about spotlighting the sights and wonders of its home county. The Blowfish have truly taken their role seriously as the county’s unofficial “ambassador”.

“Vicki and I love living in Lexington County,” Bill Shanahan said. “What we love to do is promote each and every town, city and community and special event that we can. We’re proud to be in Lexington County, SC. The Blowfish are Lexington County’s home team. This is Lexington County’s home stadium.”

This season, the Shanahans plan to take their Lexington County pride to another level. In keeping with the annual tradition of creating team jerseys to promote notable places and unique events in the county, Bill Shanahan revealed this year’s season-long theme during Wednesday’s luncheon at the VIP Stadium room.

This year’s player jerseys will display the words Lexington County SC on the front. On the back above the number will be a small Blowfish flag logo and a Lexington city or town name.

A total of 36 jerseys are expected to be produced and will be worn by this year’s team. Carolina Comfort Heating and Air and the Lexington County Farm Bureau will serve as presenting sponsors.

In addition, Shanahan is working with the mayors and officials from the Lexington towns and cities to host special game nights for their localities’ honor with proceeds designated towards the charity of their choice.

Bidding for the special team jerseys will begin on the team’s website (www.blowfishbaseball.com) May 26 when the Blowfish open the season with an exhibition against the Catawba All-Stars. It will conclude at 9 pm at the July 31 home finale (Fan Appreciation Night) against the Savannah Bananas.

Proceeds from the player jersey auction will go towards a designated Lexington County charity.
