Pelion council repeals some ordinances

At the last Pelion Town Council meeting, the following changes were made to the town ordinances:

Sec. 15.31 Discharge of Firearms – repealed

Sec. 15.39 Discharge of Dangerous Devices – repealed

Sec. 15.47 Hunting within the town limits; amended to no longer require hunters to obtain a town permit. However, hunters are required to have a valid state Hunting License. Hunters may not hunt or have hunting activities conducted within 1,000 feet of a residence adjoining the property.

Pelion Elementary School reminds us that half of the school year has passed. Panther Moms will meet at 7 am January 25 in the cafeteria. January 25 is also PES School Spirit Day and Hat Day for $1. Don’t forget to wear your school spirit shirt. Report cards go home on January 29. Class Picture Day is January 31; please make sure your child is at school that day so they get their picture taken with their class.

Forts Pond Elementary School’s 5th grade class is 65th in nation, first in school district, and in the state in the First In Math program. Zach Shealy is the teacher.

The Pelion library hosts technology training January 30 at 10:30 am for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. Preschool story time is January 30 at 11 am for ages 2-5 years. Yarn Art will be held January 26 at 10 am for ages 13 and up. This event is for beginner and advanced crafters who will share ideas and learn new skills. North of 50 meets January 29 at 11:15 am for ages 60 and up. This program includes workshops, crafts, games, and more.

Pelion High’s Athletic Trainer George Wham recently received the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award.

Pelion varsity wrestling region duals at Swansea January 26 at 9 am. Varsity basketball plays at Hemingway January 26 at 2 pm. Varsity basketball plays at Edisto January 29 at 6 pm. Varsity basketball plays at Chapin January 30 at 6 pm.

The Mr. Panther Pageant will be held January 25 at 11:10 am in the Commons. January 26 will be the Miss Panther Pageant in the Little Theatre with time to be determined.

Pelion Senior Center will play games and puzzles, bingo, golf toss, kornhole and shuffleboard this week. Exercise daily with the seniors from 11 am until noon.
