Pelion High band is tops in state

Congratulations to Pelion High’s band program. It received the state’s highest award after a superior year of performances. The band learned in May that it had earned enough points to receive an S. C. Band Directors Association Outstanding Performance Award. Pelion’s band director is Otto J. Hage.

Bands accumulate points through participation and scores earned by performing at various events. Those with qualifying points receive the Outstanding Performance Award that commends student musicians and band directors for their hard work. Pelion High Marching Pride finished 2nd at the state 2A SCBDA Marching Band Championships.

Pelion Library will host technology training on July 19 at 10:30 am. Registration is required. Preschool storytime will be July 19 at 11 am for ages 1-5 years. Blast off with Professor Whizzpop in a cosmic supernova of reading and magic July 19 at 10:30 am for grades K-5.

Discover how a trip to photograph a historical oddity, a rural, 3-story, 8-sided plantation home located on land that once bordered the Cherokee Nation, led to a special journey across our state’s amazing collection of rural churches and temples. Books will be available for purchase and signing. This event will be held July 20 at 10 am and is presented by Bill Fitzpatrick.

North of 50 meets July 23 at 11:15 am for ages 60 and up. Tween Extreme meets July 23 at 3:30 pm for grades 4-7. TeenScene for grades 6-12 meets July 25 at 7 pm for Christmas in July with a ghost story. Chad Crews will demonstrate haunting feats of magic.

The Pelion Senior Center will be closed July 19 for a staff meeting.

Thirty-seven Pelion graduating students received numerous scholarships. This week congratulations go to the students: Andrew David Boozer was awarded the Southern Wesleyan Newby Presidential scholarship. The Clemson Presidential Grant was awarded to Lauren Colette Duenke. The BETA Club scholarship was awarded to Adam Taylor Eubanks. Cheryl Lynn LaDue was the recipient of the North Greenville Marching Band scholarship. Savannah Rose McLeod was the recipient of the Paige Erin Marie Widmer scholarship.
