Pelion Thanksgiving Service is Nov. 18

The Community Thanksgiving service will be held November 18 at 6 pm at Pelion Methodist Church. Everyone is invited.

The Pelion Christmas parade is scheduled for December 8 at 3:30 pm. The tree lighting will follow at 5 pm with cookies, hot chocolate and music. These activities will take place at the Pelion Community Center. For information or an application for the parade, contact Darla Rutkoskie at 862-2214 or 821-2371.

Pelion Library will host Technology training on November 21 at 10:30 am for ages 18 and up. Registration is required.

Preschool storytime for ages 2-5 will be November 21 at 11 am. Yarn art for ages 13 and up will be November 24 at 10 am. Books & Beyond for grades K-5 will meet November 20 at 3:30 pm. This event is an engineering challenge to build the tallest tower using KEVA Planks.

Forts Pond Elementary will honor National Parent Involvement Day November 15 with lunch with the students. All Pro Dads meet November 16 at 7 am in the Learning Commons. The Mallard Market will be held November 17, 10 am-2 pm.

Pelion Elementary congratulates the 5th grade Duke Talent Identification Program qualifiers: Caitlin Adair, Easton Bolton, Lauren Brown, Brennan Fisher, Madison Heape, Faith Rebolj, and Kathleen Tharp. To qualify, students must score at or above the 95th percentile on a standardized achievement or abilities test or on SC PASS/SC Ready.

The October Panther Leaders who practice the LIFESKILLS of Personal Best, Active Listening and Truthfulness are Alex Hanson, Scarlett DFana, Aubrey Joy, Sophia Guerro, Bella Proffitt, Leslie De La Luz Aqino, and Bella Causey.

Pelion High JV/V girls basketball will scrimmage at Saluda November 15 sat 5 pm. The varsity boys basketball team will play at Cane Bay at 5:30 pm. A wrestling match will be held at Irmo at 4:30 pm.

Pelion assistant football coach Ken Tucker has been selected as an Assistant Football Coach for the S. C. Shriners Team. Coach Tucker will join Head Coach Jackie Hayes and the S. C. Sandlapper squad for this year’s Shrine Bowl game.

The certified staff at each of Lexington County School District One’s 30 schools recently chose one certified teacher to represent them in the district’s Teacher of the Year selection process. Teachers from the Pelion Schools include Forts Pond Elementary 3rd grade teacher Brandon P. Brantly; Pelion Elementary 1st grade teacher Heather A. Bradwell; Pelion High Science Teacher Peggy S. Benefield; and Pelion Middle 8th grade English Language Arts teacher Holley H. Matthews.

Pelion Senior Center will be closed November 22 and 23.
