Pelion Elementary congratulates Katie Alexander, its lead interventionist. She is the recipient of two grants for a Response to Intervention program. She will receive additional texts for students to read, plus a computer program which will help students with reading and math skills.

Panther Moms will meet February 22 at 7 am in the cafeteria. All moms are invited to learn with their children. Registration continues for full or half day programs for 4 year olds. Visit the office for more info.

Forts Pond Elementary welcomed State Tresaurer Curtis Loftis, along with some associates, who came to FPES to give Mrs. Gina Mahoney, School Counselor, an Educator of the Month Award for her work with financial apps utilized in fifth grade classrooms studies. She was awarded a plaque. Mr. Loftis visited each 5th grade classroom, discussed saving for college and answered questions from students. The students were treated to Future Scholar bags.

Mallard Moms met February 11 and All Pro Dads will meet February 22 at 7 am. 4K registration is now in process. Lego’s and Leaders was a huge success on February 2. The Media Center was at capacity with students and parents working together to create and retell a story, build bridges, and create a new story with Legos. The next workshop will be April 26.

FPES celebrated its super staff with a “Soup”er Staff on February 1. Twelve crock pots of various types of soups were shared with all staff members. Thanks to the parents/ caregivers who attended the Parent Lighthouse meeting February 1. Dr. Lori Poole, Literacy Coach, will present a workshop for Kindergarten parents/caregivers February 14 at 7:30 am.

FPES’s Chasity Parker, computer lab assistant, has been nominated by Grand Canyon University to join The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The Pelion library hosts Technology Training February 20 at 10:30 for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. Preschool story time is February 20 at 11 am for ages 2-5. TeenScene will play “Minute to Win It” ebruary 14 at 6 pm for grades 6-12. Books and Beyond will have a puppet show February 19 at 3:30 pm. for grades K-5. Spine Crackers Book Club meets February 20 at 3 pm for ages 18 and up. This month the book club is reading “The Knock at the Door” by Margaret Ahnert, a SC author.

Pelion High’s Journey Castro, Rhegan Durden, Anthony Holm, and Belle Kneece were chosen from hundreds of students across the nation for a weekend of music and learning at the University of South Carolina. The Music band clinic is among the nation’s most prestigious honor band events. Organizers accept the top 400 band students.

Pelion Senior participants will take a trip to Riverbanks Zoo February 15. The center will be closed February 18. Blood pressure checks will be conducted February 20.
