The Midland Dixie Youth Baseball Coach Pitch team, representing South Carolina, placed fourth at the DYB World Series held in Lumberton, N.C.
South Carolina defeated Tennessee 3-2 in the first game Monday, but lost to Louisiana 7 -1 and 5-3 to Tennessee to finish 1-2 in the tournament.
In games played before Monday at the World Series, SC was 3-0 with wins over Florida (11-6), Texas (16-2 in 4 innings) and Arkansas (10-0).
The Pine Ridge team was headed by Michael Tyler and assistants Brad Chavis, Kale Green and Kevin Johnson.
“Words cannot begin to express how proud we are of this group of kids and coaches,” said Stephen Knight, President of Midland DYB. “Not only did you represent Midland and the State of South Carolina well, but you did it in a first class manner.”
The Midland Dixie Youth Baseball Coach Pitch team won the District 4 championship and the state title in order to qualify for the World Series. The team did not lose a game before its two losses in the World Series.
Knight said taking fourth Place in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series Coaches Pitch Tournament out of more than 4,000 DYB teams is definitely an accomplishment.
The Midland Dixie Youth Minors All-Stars boys baseball team won the 2018 AAA State Tournament. The Midland Minors qualified for the Dixie Youth World Series, also in Lumberton.
