Our Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce held its monthly breakfast Feb. 11 at Radius Church.

Prisma Health President and CEO Mark O’Halla spoke on health care trends and how the hospital is finding better opportunities to serve the people of South Carolina. Whitnel Jeffcoat of the American Cancer Society was recognized as Ambassador of the Month.

Hundreds gathered on Valentine’s Day at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church for the 3rd annual Celebrity Breakfast sponsored by The Courage Center. The center, begun by Scotty and Susan Mills, focuses on the care and rehabilitation of those affected by drug abuse. Videos of the youth and family services offered by the center were shown. /emceeing the event was Dominic Brown of WIS-TV. Featured presenter was Darryl Stawberry. Closing speakers were board member and recovery coach Randy Rush and Board Chair Dr. Pam Imm.

Executive Director Adrienne Bellinger reports more than 525 attendees with $80,000 in donations and more to be counted.

Anne Bull reports that the Chris Myers Children’s Place is looking for new directors to replace June Fusco and Carol Perrin, who are leaving June 1. The community appreciates the time, generosity and love these ladies have given to families in need for the past 8 years.

The Chris Myers Children Place provides transitional housing for children and their mothers. Volunteers work with each individual and family to help them learn positive behaviors and life skills to prepare for successful family life. If you know someone who is interested, call 803-348-6348.

Look out! Craft Axe Throwing plans to open at the end of the month at 101 E. Main, Lexington, next to Craig Reagin Clothiers.

“Pack the Pantry” to benefit Mission Lexington March 7, 1-5 pm. Local bands will entertain you while you help stock the shelves with your donations to feed the hungry. It’s at the Icehouse Amphitheater in Lexington.

members of Unit 7 of the American Legion Auxiliary have been sprucing up the Legion Hut to get ready for a visit from the national president on March 2. Veterans are invited to drop in 3-5 pm to greet President Nicole Clapp from Iowa. The SC department’s president, Barbara Sinner, a member of Unit 7, and her husband, are both veterans.

Valentine anniversaries include:

Angela and Randy Halfacre celebrated their 50th with an extended trip to Edisto Island. They were wed in Columbia on a weekend and had to return to class on Monday at USC. Their children honored them with a dinner at a local restaurant.

Lana and Chuck McCurry celebrated their 47th Feb. 17 with a trip to Destin, Fla.

Brenda and Larry Keisler celebrated their 56th anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Being the good chef he is, Larry prepared a steak and lobster dinner for their enjoyment.

We all need to pause and remember the family of little Faye Swetlik, whose tragic death has shocked and saddened our entire community, not to mention the state and the nation. Thoughts of love, support and comfort are extended to them at this time.
