AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The City of West Columbia received a $25,000 SC Department of Health and Environmental Control grant to place 21 recycling and 21 trash receptacles (twin bins) in various public locations around the city. The targeted items are pedestrian trash and litter, as well as plastic bottles, cans, and glass.

Mayor Bobby Horton said, “The installation of the twin bins is another positive step in Council’s quest to reduce litter in public areas and beautify the City. We’ve strategically placed them in various high pedestrian traffic areas such as the Meeting Street/US 1 corridor, Triangle City, Butler Park, and Sunset Boulevard.”

The Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant Program is funded by a $2 fee on appliances and lead-acid batteries charged upon purchase at the retail level. The program funds recycling or waste reduction projects.

Your public safety teams are working together. The Cayce Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 1500 block of Hopkins Street, March 26. The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of injuries. As a part of the Automatic Aid Response agreement, the West Columbia Fire Department helped work the fire.

Saturday was National Walk in the Park Day. The City of West Columbia has eight miles of Riverwalk to stroll, walk, and enjoy. The City of Cayce has five miles of Riverwalk, too. Both invited pedestrians to their parks to celebrate the day.
