Red Bank council race heating up

Lexington County Council District 5 could be a hotly-contested race next year.

Red Bank business owner Bobby Keisler has decided not to seek re-election but said he knew several candidates plan to run.

District 5 covers Red Bank and South Congaree.

2 candidates so far have filed. They are:

• Gene (Bimbo) Jones whose family is almost legendary in the county. Jones is well known for selling and installing thousands of tires for decades at Frank’s Discount Tires.

• Brian Duncan is a retired Guardsman and owner of Security Pro. He ran for the seat in 2016.

“My career started with serving others in the National Guard and I want to carry that to Lexington County Council,” he said.

In the 2016 Republican primary, Duncan won 9 out of the district’s 15 precincts, less than 2% of the votes behind the incumbent.

District 5 is one of the fastest-growing areas in our county,” he said. “It is crucial that we have positive new leadership.”

The Republican primary will be in June 2020 with the general election in November.
