Report sexual harassers

Posted

I am writing as a man who was sexually harassed by a female college professor when I was a graduate student.

She had the power to determine whether or not I received my degree.

It finally ended when the female professor I served as a teaching assistant went to the harasser and told her that if it did not stop she would report her to the university.

I felt the same shame, embarrassment and self-blame other victims feel.

My biggest regret is that I never reported it to the university. That left the perpetrator free to prey upon others. Fortunately, she was denied tenure and left.

I encourage sexual harassment victims and survivors to report their harassers to the authorities. The harassers need to be stopped so they can never abuse, hurt, and traumatize anyone else.

I realize I will be mocked, laughed at and be made fun of by some people for this, but it will be worth it if my letter encourages even one person to report the harassers.
