AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

An estimated 1,500 supporters came out Saturday for the Lexington Rotary Club Oyster Roast.

Held at The Grove on Augusta Highway, it was an event for all ages. There was entertainment for children, so families came with chairs and strollers to relax and enjoy the day.

The hard-working committee kept oysters coming for hungry guests to shuck and savor. Also available was an assortment of beverages and BBQ with all the trimmings. Providing entertainment were Trent Jeff-coat and The Root Doctors.

Among those attending on this beautiful day were Ann and Rick Hubbard, Nancy Lipski, Nancy Verberg, state Rep. Paula Calhoon, Donnie Myers, Gary Deese, Troy Simpson, Eloise and John Hiers, John Bozard, Melissa and Odie Rawl, Jen and Richard McIntyre, Ann and Frank Wingate, Cynthia Satcher, Sonya Gettys, Melanie Sandor, Carol and Mickey Perrin, June and Art Fusco, Beth and Bob Speaks, Amanda and Gil Youmans, Dale and Larry Timbes, Melissa and Tillman Kyzer, Ginger and Don Taylor, Susan and Warren Herndon, Tanya and Deck Hudson, Pandra Lemrow, Kathy and Joel Pack, Jake Pack, Donna and Bob Peeler, Dean Wheeler, Bobbie and Richard Adams, and Beth and Azmi Jebali. Thanks to Anne and Dennis Bull, who helped compile the names of those attending.

Proceeds from this huge event benefit the Lexington School District Scholarship Fund established by Rotary Club members, including Hamp Caughman and the late Raymond Caughman. It was a well-planned and successful event for Rotary.

Those on the planning committee who made it all happen were Danny Hoover, Brant Taylor, Rob Sirley, Larry Gates, O’Neal Staples, Phil Demery, Ben Fuller, Brandon Caldwell, Colin Thain, Mike White, Manning Jolb, and Greg David.

Shiloh United Methodist Church will hold its Lunch and Learn at noon April 9. The program topic will be “Resources for Family History Research.” RSVP to Donna or Jerry Griffin at 359-7586 if you would like to attend.

Remember this weekend is the 14th annual Spring Heartworm Fundraiser. It’s April 6, 6-9 pm, at Lexington Town Hall. This event raises money for shelter animals in need. It is free, but you might want to bid to purchase an item in the silent auction.

The All About Herbs Festival is also April 6, 9 am-3 pm, at the Lexington County Museum. Admission is free, but you can purchase plants and baked goods there.

Congratulations to Lauren and Travis Hite on the birth of a daughter, Emma Rose, on March 2. Proud grandparents are Kathy and Terry Hite and great-grandfather is Wilbur Hite.
